any one could tell me how good it the dboys rifle groupings? how it is his hup op

I could be an a luftwaffe ace you know?..........................................................................Die Unsichtbare Waffe!
I've decided to redo the stock of my Tanaka G33/40 after seeing Guinesse's efforts. I've sanded down the stock to the bare wood and will stain it to a darker colour (dark oak) tomorrow. I will post up some pics when I remember to take them. ![]()
I will prob leave the DBoyi KAR98 k - 'WWII01' looking standard, kind of like just issued, as for the internals it will be a 55 shot 500fps weapon when I have finished with no shells flying out & getting lost, I was going to use a MP-001 mechanisim but its cylinder is smaller than a VSR so I am working on fitting a VSR in, also the Laylax parts are off the shelf & easily upgradable, will fit upgraded piston, sears, spring etc, the plastic stock should be easy to work with too to get the VSR action in, a few hours with a dremel, I have just removed the stock & split it in 1/2 ready for removing the plastic, it was not glued to well so came apart quite easy with just my hands, I will use the G&P 55 round mags from ehobby asia, they are the same size as normal VSR mags,

Nice one Steve! I was wondering who would be the first to attempt this, looking forward to see how this pans-out as I've been considering doing another k98 conversion using the Dboyi myself.
This certainly looks to be the best route to a cheap, skirmish competent K98.
I've heard talk of feed issues with the G&P mags, have not tried them myself but after reading a few reports i decided to just go for the standard marui mags on mine. I went with a JG-BAR10 for my donor gun which is 100% marui VSR compatible and only a little bit more expensive than the MP001.
Currently mine shoots 475fps with the original spring, a nineball hop-rubber and a few internal tweeks; shortened air-brake, ptfe tape on cylinder head seal, and 12mm spacer on the spring guide. haven't touched anything else yet but I am keepin an eye on the trigger sears to see how they are holding up, no problems so far though ![]()
This is going to be very very similar to the conversion I did on my 8mm Gas Marushin K98. I'm sure you probably dont need it, but if I can offer any assistance then let me know, I'd be happy to help.
“I wanted to come to the Volga at a specific location at a specific city. By chance it carries the name of Stalin himself. So don’t think I marched there for this reason – it could carry another name – but because there is a very important goal... this goal I wanted to take – and you know – we are very modest, we have it already."

Cool, keep us informed on the conversion ![]()
Its looking good, I am not to good working with wood, have removed all the plastic to make the action fit, now & re glued the 2 halfs back together, its a nice fit, will leave the glue to dry over night, only took 2 hours, also cut out the mag hole slightly undersize, had to remove some plastic by the bolt handle with the craft tool, the scope rail will be getting cut leaving 2 pieces to mount the new scope rings & a non zooom 4x40 scope will be fitted,

Looking good
. Its a bit of a pitty and a bit late now but you could have probably used the bolt handle and bolt end off the Dboyi to make a more realistic look and would not have had to cut the stock. It is afair bit more work involved though obviously!

Nicely done. I'm not being critical but I can't see the point of putting VSR internals in the plastic stock. It's just as cheap to use a real one and it looks much better. When I get my hands on one of these shell ejectors, it's going straight into a real stock as well.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
I did not intend to put it in a plastic stock at first, but as the power was low & it was inpractical to have a shell ejecting gun for skirmishing I was just making it more usable, wooden stock or plastic stock at the end of the day it still fires plastic balls
Steve.D

Its easy & with the dboyi you have all the bits like the barrel bands etc so you dont have to go searching for the other bits, the hard bit will be getting the mags to fit in I guess, I will prob just cut the whole catch mechanisim off the VSR stock & glue it in,

Hi I am a new member to this fourm but I was woundering what the Fps rating was on the original gun , and would it be possible to use it in is original form in a game?

Reports are it comes in around 280-320fps in stock form. The main issue is it is shell-ejecting so you have only got 5 rounds between re-loads and youve got to pick up the ejected shells as you go. Shells seem to be very soft metal too so it doesnt look like they will last long and they are not throw-away cheap. You could skirmish with one if you like a challenge but it is not going to be very competetive!

I think the point is cost! This has got to be the cheapest route to a proper skirmishable Kar98.
Dboys K98k =£38
JG- BAR10 = £35
total = £73 + shipping thats all in for under £150!
I think as Steve says, a lot of people will find it easier to work with plastic rather than wood and you can get everything you need with one order from RSOV. Plus the ability to split the whole thing in half makes it a lot easier to work with and figure out how it all goes together. Its a lot more of an Airfix job than a carpentry job. If Steve's progress is anything to go by, I think total production time for a basic conversion will be pretty short.
I would say its well worth doing, especially if it means we see loads more K98's on the skirmish field instead of every axis being an NCCO with an MP40!

Depending on how this goes, I'd like to see a guide on how to do it, as now I'm going Kraut too, I'd make one. I'm not a huge fan of AEGs anyway, preferring rifles as I do, and for me the K98 and felgrau is the iconic image I want to portray.
Alternatively, if someone wants to produce them to commission, I'd buy one at some point. ![]()

I think there are a fair few guys on the boards who could do, I for one am seriously considering it!
By way of my credentials, this is my previous work with my Marushin based conversion
:
I plan to get a DBoys soon and do a prototype to see how long it takes and if its viable for a sensible price.

The glue has set, I have removed the whole mag catch assembley with a dremel, just epoxying it on now, the rifle action & barrel will be secured in at 3 points, at the trigger guard end with the existing VSR screw, to stop any backward movement I have epoxied a piece of metal behind the trigger assembly, mid way in the stock I have glued a piece of metal & screwed it to secure it, a screw will pass through the origional magazine baseplate & through the metal piece I have inserted, ( hopefully) & a 3rd screw will pass through the stock forward of the VSR magazine to pick up the existing mounting on the VSR forward possition, the K98 outer barrel will be fitted over the VSR inner barrel & glued on with silicone, it should remain in place with the barrel band, I have cut off the K98 rear sight & it will be glued on in a miniute, I have used loctight "super steel" epoxy, its very strong & can repair steel, the VSR inner barrel had to be cut slightly as its too long, pics to follow, total time 4 hours so far,
Steve.D

Pic 1, the metal in the stock for the middle securing possition,

Pic 2, the top handguard cut to fit over the cut VSR outer barrel,

Pic 3, the magazine catch glued in, this epoxy sets in 5 miniutes

Pic 4, the K98 barrel ready to be fitted over the inner barrel,

Pic 5, handguard in possition,

total cost £100, £80 for the K98, £10 for a broken VSR, ( fixed now ) £7.50 for 3 packs of epoxy,

Thats a very tempting conversion ![]()
Its good if you have a old VSR or clone knocking about
